Samsung Electronics said Thursday it has developed a 60 GB 1.8-inch hard disc drive and will start mass-producing it early next year.
Smaller than a business card, the drive is capable of storing 40 DVD movies and 15,000 MP3 music files. It will be used for mini PCs, small notebook computers, portable multimedia players and MP3 players.
By mass-producing the drives, Samsung hopes to consolidate its lead in the mobile device market. Japan¡¯s Toshiba and Hitachi are leaders in the 1.8-inch hard disc drive market.
